Military critics of the war said the war was political and that the military mission did not have clear goals. Many people thought that our government was misleading the American people about a war that seemed to not end. Many young men were scared to go to Vietnam. Hundreds of them went to live in Canada or Sweden to avoid the draft. Some men found sympathetic doctors who would put them down as 4F, making them ineligible for the draft. Others used a student deferment, putting their draft off until after college. Others joined the National Guard or entered the Peace Corps to avoid going to Vietnam. |
